2010 paintings / Leave a Comment, Win some art.

The Skinny: Post a comment. Win some art.

Details: Tell me which painting (of mine) is your favorite, and what kind of subject matter you would like to see me start painting.

In early January I'll randomly select SEVERAL (if not all) comments and send the writers some art. I was thinking I'd send a RHINO DOODLEs, a PAINTING CALENDAR, or maybe a colorful sketch of their suggestion. I am happy to send this art to anywhere in the world, so this little competition is open to anyone/anywhere. I'd really like as many suggestions as possible- so tell your friends and your lovers.

Back Story: I started to post a smattering of work I've completed in the last year when I realized: "Holy-Moley I painted a ton of birds in 2010!" New 2011 Goal: I will finish the Bird paintings I have started, and I shall start NO MORE. Of course, Ive started a few other paintings but im really looking for new direction and I'd really love to hear a few suggestions.

Gidget's Bird.......Finished.......

Ive been painting this one for a while. Most of 2010 I think. Oil on Canvas.

I use to sit in the spare room of our old apartment, with the door open, and paint on this. (really just doodling on the background before I found inspiration on what to paint as a subject. ) My dearly departed kitty, Gidget, use to sit right outside the doorway and watch me paint. Most of the time it was only 2 or 3 feet away.

When I look at a painting I know where I was when I painted it. With this one I was with Gidget.

2011 Goals... Let's start with Portraits.

12/15/2010 Self Portrait

I really wanna devote 2011 to sharpening my skills, and figuring out where I'm going artistically. I feel I should START with portraits. Much of the work I really like does involve the face. sorta. Take Travis Louie for example. Its not an actual portrait of a person, but the subject and the lighting is really fantastic. Kris Lewis is another artist's work that I admire.

So, I need to figure this portrait thing out. Im starting with my own mug. As you can tell, I have a ways to go. The above sketch took about 90 minutes- and involved alot of erasing. I love to mark my progress so expect to see many more posts of my face. Hopefully they will be more and more recognizably my face as I go along.

Update: Feb 2011
Started the first Self portrait painting of the new year. I expect there will be many. not out of vanity, but out of trying to get it right. Currently, It looks like Zombie Allie. Hoping to get a chance to do more work on it
soon.

March 2011 Update: Still kinda Zombie-ish. Just more wonk-eyed.

December 2011 Update:
This painting has been on the back burner most of the year.
Im not terribly fond of it, but it is almost complete.

Jan 2012 update:

finished and still wet.

Hoorah for Sunday.....Sunday is Painting day....

A Giraffe, a hummingbird, and a Dino. These are a few items Ive been working on throughout today. Having the first real day off Ive had in a while (no road trips, no feeling awful, no massive amount of errands to run) Ive been trying to catch up on a few paintings.

OTHER paintings Ive been working on today that are not pictured, but should be coming soon (should i ever finish them) include 2 other bird paintings, another stegosaurus painting, and "Charlie & Rex" - my dino/unicorn love sympathy that will probably never be complete. ( to see more of Charlie & Rex click HERE or on the title itself)

Also of note: this is an awful pic of my dino. However so much of the canvas was wet (and REFLECTIVE) that a decent pic couldn't be taken by my unskilled hands.
